Repurposing Wind Turbine Blades
Options to re-purpose old wind turbine blades are currently pretty limited. But in 2021, a small pilot pedestrian bridge made from decommissioned wind turbine blades was installed in Cork, Ireland. Apparently the strength of the material, the hollow interior and the aesthetics of the shape resulted in a decision to explore the possibility of using blades to replace the traditional steel components - such as steel girders. https://static1.squarespace.com/static/5b324c409772ae52fecb6698/t/612cdad0fb277e4beaffb917/1630329554458/Leahy_ITRN_2021_Blade_Bridge.pdf

New Platform Allows Engineers to Work Smarter, not Harder
It's estimated that the cost of rework in the AEC industry is estimated to be 5% of the contract value, meaning millions in rework and valuable time lost. Now, one of the best things about being a part of the startup ecosystem is being able to see people innovate and create ingenious solutions to problems to make a system more productive. And one of these companies that are making life easier for engineers by joining calculations, engineering teams and design together is CalcTree. An Australian startup that lets engineers optimise their calculations to produce the most efficient designs possible.https://www.calctree.io/
