Extended Detection Response (XDR)
New class of security tools seeking to improve effectiveness and efficiency of threat detection and response. It operates by aggregating and correlating telemetry from multiple detection controls and synthesizing and automating response actions. This approach can improve detection accuracy while significantly reducing the complexity required for comprehensive threat protection. This can relieve some of the stress on security teams overburdened by having to manage multiple security systems simultaneously. Consolidating several security products into a single XDR platform also provides considerable cost savings, this makes it a viable solution for smaller businesses and large enterprises. new Micro VC led by Gen-Y
Very cool idea. AfterWork Ventures, a “micro” venture capital fund - led by younger generation - could this new VC support under-represented entrepreneurs? Is this the makings of a fierce community? Since 2017, Afterwork has made thirty investments across two portfolios including into a fintech start-up (Wagetap) that lets employees access part of their pay before payday and a healthy pet food delivery company called Lyka. Their proof of concept fund had $1 million under management from around fifteen different investors. Nice to see diversity in the VC industry! https://www.afterwork.vc/ Image by Tumisu from Pixabay

Ocean carbon credits
If we are to keep global warming to 1.5 degrees, CO2 will need to be removed from the atmosphere. The Ocean Nourishment Corporation is working to enhance the natural process of photosynthesis by phytoplankton whereby they draw CO2 from the atmosphere. As more CO2 is drawn down, more carbon will be stored at the bottom of the ocean when the phytoplankton die. A carbon credit can be created for each additional tonne of CO2 stored. If 2.4 billion tonnes can be stored, then, at $50 per tonne,  this technique can create a market in excess of $100 billion.

Australia's first solar powered Direct Air Capture (DAC) units
Direct Air Capture (DAC) units suck in air, extract CO2 & then store it underground or make it available for other uses (greenhouses, algae farms, concrete production). Stripping CO2 from air can be energy-intensive, reducing the overall benefit. But Southern Green Gas (SGG), an Australian company, is trialling a new solar-powered DAC technology. The SGG DACs are small (about the size of 2 household fridges), so can be set up in an array much like a solar farm. With the added benefit of local manufacturing & creating globally tradeable negative emissions certificates - this is one worth watching.https://www.southerngreengas.com.au/negative-emissions.html
